A good fishing wobbler can save the day when predators refuse to touch anything else. But with so many shapes, sizes and colours available, picking the right one isn't always easy. Minnows, crankbaits, shads, floating and sinking lures... Where do you even start?

At UHU-EL, you can buy fishing wobblers and hard baits for pike, perch, zander and other predatory fish. Whether you're fishing shallow lakes, deep rivers or rocky shorelines, there's a lure for the job. Let’s take a look at what you should put in u'r tackle box.

Types of fishing wobblers and when to use them

Minnow wobblers - perfect for twitching and jerkbait fishing

Love twitching? Then minnow wobblers should definitely be in your collection! Their slim bodies imitate small baitfish, especially when worked with short rod jerks and pauses.

Give your lure a couple of sharp twitches, let it sit for a moment, and get ready. Sometimes that pause is exactly what makes a following predator strike.

For pike fishing, anglers often choose minnows between 90 and 130 mm. Lower models can be excellent for perch. Still, there's no magic size that works everywhere. It all depends on local baitfish, water conditions and how actively the predators are feeding.

Crankbaits and shads - great for covering water

Don't feel like constantly twitching your rod? Give crankbaits a try! These compact, rounded hard lures have a lively action of their own, making many models ideal for steady retrieves.

They're especially handy around weed edges, river currents and underwater drop-offs.

Shad wobblers are another solid choice. Their deeper, flattened bodies resemble small forage fish. Some work beautifully with a straight retrieve, while others really come alive with a few twitches and pauses.

Poppers, walking baits and lipless crankbaits

Poppers create exciting splashes and popping sounds, while walking baits glide side to side across the surface. Both can be incredibly thrilling when predators are hunting near the top.

If you need to venture into deeper waters, give lipless crankbaits a shot. Also known as rattlins or vibration lures, many sinking models allow you to explore various depths and cover a lot of ground.

How to choose the right fishing wobbler

Buoyancy and diving depth - get these right first

Here's something worth checking before buying any hard bait.

F means floating, SP means suspending, and S means sinking.

Imagine fishing for pike over a thick weed bed. A deep-diving crankbait will keep digging into the vegetation. A shallow-running wobbler with a diving depth of up to 0.5 m could be a much better choice.

Fishing deep edges or drop-offs? Look at models designed to run at 1-3 m or deeper.

Just remember that actual running depth depends on retrieve speed, line diameter and casting distance. Even a suspending lure may slowly sink when you add a heavy leader.

Size, weight and colour - small details, big Difference

For perch, 35-70 mm wobblers are a common starting point. For pike, 90-130 mm models are popular. But don't get stuck on numbers! If predators are feeding on tiny baitfish, a smaller lure might get far more attention.

Always match lure weight to your rod's casting range. A balanced setup makes casting and working the lure much more enjoyable.

And what about colour? Natural baitfish patterns are a good place to start in clear water. In murky conditions, bright or contrasting colours can be worth a shot.

Of course, fish don't always follow the rules. One day they smash a fluorescent lure, and the next they won't touch anything except a natural-looking minnow. That's fishing!
